These are mixed in with effleurage (long strokes) and kneading to get your blood pumping and oxygen flowing.

Relaxing massages can make you feel tired by calming your nervous system and lowering your adrenaline levels. Energising massages are also calming, but they energise you by stimulating your sympathetic nervous system. The result: you’re less stressed, but more alert and focused.
In an energising massage, therapists use a combination of percussive motions called tapotements, deep kneading (called petrissage) and more vigorous motions to get your blood circulating.
To keep you and your therapist safe, it’s important to hold off on getting a massage if you’re unwell with a fever or flu-like symptoms, or if you have a contagious skin disease. Therapists have the right to cancel your treatment if they think it will harm you or them in any way.
