We caught up with Urban pro Rozalia to find out what she enjoys most about being a massage therapist and what self care means to her.
Hey Rozalia! Mind telling us what treatments you offer on Urban?
Urban classic, deep tissue, energising massage, relaxing massage and office chair massage.
How long have you been practicing?
Almost 9 years.
Where are you from?
Budapest, Hungary. However I have lived in Cork, Ireland for 7.5 years and worked on a cruise ship in Australia!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
There are a few things! I think mostly I love meeting people with different backgrounds and helping them with my treatment. I also love when I give my clients tips and advice and they they tell me how it worked for them – this makes me so happy!
I also love the freedom of my job and I always have opportunities to improve.
Finally, I love that I am not stuck in one place all the time and can travel and explore London a bit while working. If I have some time between clients I’ll walk or eat my lunch in different parks.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love going for long (I mean a whole day if it would be up to me) walks, listening to interesting podcasts, talking with friends or playing with my cat who demands playtime from me.
Do you have any interesting hobbies?
Not a lot of people know, but I used to study music. It’s become a hobby these days and I play the violin. I really enjoy it but I’m not as good as I wish to be. It can be challenging to find time and energy to practice, but I really enjoy it as a hobby.
What does self-care mean to you?
Self-care to me means taking care of yourself mentally and physically. Although I can be very caught up with everyday life just like everyone else, it is important to make new adjustments to create healthier habits.
Self care starts from having enough sleep, having regular massages/treatments, having a good healthy diet and exercise. I love home cooked meals, even if it takes longer to make. I also have a bath once a week with epsom salt, which helps me to recover mentally and physically. Having one day a week when I sleep in and rest by not doing much is also key in helping me to feel more focused and energised.
Having a hobby completely different to my work or just doing something creative always gives me a mental boost and helps me avoid burnout. If it gets very busy I actually schedule in time for myself and it makes a huge difference. Finally, knowing my own limits and saying no to things that I really don’t want to or cannot do, even though it is difficult at times.
And finally do you ever book treatments for yourself?
Yes I do! I love deep tissue treatments at least once a month and I have dry cupping treatments twice a month.
