What aftercare advice should I give my clients?
Aftercare helps your clients feel looked after – it’s one of the easiest ways to show your professionalism and encourage rebookings. Here’s what to recommend after each treatment type.
Massage
Deep tissue, sports, injury/pain management
- Rest your body – no heavy workouts straight after
- Gentle stretching can help with recovery
- Some soreness is normal and should ease in 72 hours
- Use heat or ice as advised
Relaxing, energising, Urban classic
- Stay hydrated (don’t wait to feel thirsty)
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol and fizzy drinks for a few hours
- Rest up and give yourself a quiet moment after the session
- Try a mindfulness app to keep the calm going
- Have a warm bath or shower to relax muscles further
Pre and postnatal
- Rest whenever you can
- Drink plenty of fluids to support your body
- Gentle movement helps keep tension away
Reflexology
- Avoid intense exercise for the next 24 hours
- Take time to pause – it helps settle the nervous system
- Drink extra water
- Mindfulness between treatments is a great stress support
Lymphatic drainage
- Wear loose, comfortable clothes
- Drink plenty of water for the next 72 hours
- Cut back on tea, coffee and alcohol for 24 hours
- Try some light movement after 24 hours to support your immune system
Oncology massage
- Drink extra water
- Stay warm and relaxed
- Avoid caffeine, tea and fizzy drinks afterwards
Thai massage
- Gently stretch after your treatment
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol
- Take it easy for the rest of the day
Osteopathy & physio
- Avoid exercise for at least 48 hours
- Do any stretches or exercises your therapist recommended
- Some soreness is normal — it’s part of the healing process
Beauty treatments
Nails
- Use cuticle oil to keep cuticles hydrated
- Wear gloves for things like washing up to protect your nails
- Use hand cream regularly
- Don’t peel off gel polish or file your nails after your appointment
Facials
- Wear SPF 30+ daily and avoid harsh products
- Avoid exfoliating for 48 hours
- Don’t apply fake tan for 24 hours
Waxing
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, and sweating for 24-48 hours
- Wear loose clothing to prevent irritation
- Skip scented lotions or deodorants on waxed areas
- Apply soothing gel (e.g. aloe vera) if needed
- Don’t touch or scratch the waxed skin
- Start gentle exfoliation after 2–3 days
- Moisturize daily with a light, fragrance-free lotion
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning for a few days
- Don’t shave or tweeze between waxing sessions
