How Urban defines inappropriate behaviour
At Urban, your safety comes first. Because our services involve close contact, it’s important to be clear about what counts as unacceptable behaviour. Having clear definitions helps us create a safe, respectful environment for everyone.
Our approach is zero tolerance – guided by definitions from The Survivors Trust.
What we mean by sexual harassment
Sexual harassment is any behaviour that makes someone feel uncomfortable, distressed or intimidated. It can take different forms:
- Verbal – unwanted comments, sexual remarks, requests for sexual favours or asking personal questions you’re not comfortable with
- Visual – exposure or sending explicit images without consent, indecent exposure, inappropriate staring or offensive gestures
- Physical – any unwanted physical contact such as brushing, rubbing, groping, unwelcome touching (including hugging), intimidating gestures or more serious acts like assault or abuse
The difference between harassment and assault
- Harassment – a broad term that covers a range of behaviours which may breach civil laws
- Assault – more specific, and usually a criminal offence, involving unwanted sexual contact
Personal boundaries
Boundaries can be physical, emotional, professional or social. In our trust and safety context, we focus on sexual boundaries – meaning any behaviour that crosses the line and makes someone feel uncomfortable, intimidated or distressed, even if it seems subtle.
