What to do when you’re on jet lag day two

Share

If you haven’t managed to shake off your jet lag after one day, then the second day is often much worse. You feel sluggish, sleepy and may even have trouble eating and concentrating. People handle jet lag differently, and for some it takes longer than others to recover. But there are certain things you can do to speed up the acclimatisation process, including a full body massage, increased movement and more. Read on to discover our five handy hints that will help make adjusting to your home time zone that much easier.

  1. Avoid caffeine

While it may be tempting to reach for a cup of coffee or a can of energy drink when you start to feel your body lagging, caffeine is not your ally in the fight against jet lag. It will greatly affect your ability to sleep and is not as hydrating and beneficial as pure water. The same goes for alcohol too, a glass of wine before bed may do more harm than good no matter how nice it tastes.

  1. Spend time outdoors

To fight jet lag, try and get outside as much as you can. The sunlight will help your body to adjust to its new time zone and is overall just great for improving feelings of wellbeing. Breathing in fresh air is also a simple way to reinvigorate your body.

  1. Work out

Stretch your muscles and boost endorphins when you’re back home by getting into regular exercise routine. Not only will this increase blood flow and get your body moving, but an intense workout may also help to tire you out, so you sleep easier at night.

  1. Get a massage

Booking an outcall massage when you arrive home has so many benefits, include fighting jet lag. A full body massage will help flush toxins out of your body, relax your muscles and can help to minimise the feelings of nausea, dehydration, tiredness and irritability that jet lag brings.

  1. Hot bath before bed

When all else fails sometimes the most traditional methods work best. Soaking in a warm bath with epsom salts, lavender oil and candles before bed can help you enter a state of total relaxation. Head to bed straight after and you should feel your head hitting the pillow sooner than you think.
