The Urban Massage wellbeing guide to Cornwall

Part of Urban Living

Cornwall is one of the most picturesque places in the UK, and is an ideal location for your next staycation. Alongside its crystal clear beaches and quaint villages, there are also a great number of health and wellbeing businesses cropping up across the area. Discover our guide to the best gyms, spas and healthy eating spots in Cornwall below.

Where to eat

Cream teas and Cornish pasties may be at the top of most menus in the area, but once you’ve sampled the local delicacies you may be on the search for something slightly healthier. The Bean Inn has been voted one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the Britain and serves a variety of tasty traditional dishes that use both local and organic produce. All food is Vegetarian Society-approved and can be adapted for other dietary requirements on request. If you want somewhere that’s 100% plant-based try The Cornish Vegan instead. Everything is made in house or produced locally, including their vegan mayo, butter, ketchup, cheeses. The dishes aim to recreate classic American comfort food, with Southern style ‘chickin’ biscuits and bbq jackfruit burgers on the menu.

Where to workout

Watersports are huge in Cornwall, alongside surfing and swimming so if you’re even remotely interested in the beach you should definitely try and exercise in the Cornish sea at some point during your stay. If you prefer to break a sweat inside a studio, Gym Project is the place for you. This chic workout spot rivals London gyms with its extensive equipment list, class options and design. Alternatively give Koncept a try. With a focus on strength and conditioning, the gym is known as the top MMA spot in Cornwall and offers kickboxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, MMA, and boxing classes.

Where to relax

The spa at The Scarlet Hotel is arguably the best in Cornwall, and features a eucalyptus steam room, cedar barrel sauna, meditation room and hanging sleep pods. To top it all off the spa also has cliff top hot tubs, which offer breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. If you prefer your relaxation to take place in a more traditional setting try The Clearing Spa at The Cornwall Hotel instead. Its juice bar and drench showers are particular highlights, as well as its dry sauna which overlooks a Victorian sub-tropical walled garden.
