Some tips for a dead easy office Halloween celebration

Vampires. Skeletons. Ghosts. Unplanned short-notice Halloween parties. What do all of these things have in common?

They’re all terrifying, right?

Well sure, the first three are. But last-minute parties are a breeze if you can think of a good idea, especially in spook-season with lots of traditions to make the most of. Halloween’s just a week away, so here are a few activities that are easy to organise last-minute and bound to go down a treat.

Halloween volunteering

Think treat, not trick this Halloween by organising a group volunteering activity. In practice, volunteering is a wholesome way to bring a team together, especially if you pick an activity with a comfy seasonal angle. Think Autumn leaf-clearing, or helping to prep public gardens for the colder weather. The National Trust has loads of ways to get started on that. Mean-spirited is a bad look, anyway.

Pumpkin Carving

It’s a little more low-key, but really popular, especially if you work in an office of creatives. And it’s just about the easiest thing to sort, ever. Order them into the office in bulk. Get some sharp knives and plenty of bin bags for the pumpkin goop, and you’re all set. Lots of scope to turn it into a competition, too.

Book a London ghost tour

You can hardly move in London for spooky history, in fact you’d be hard pressed to find a better city in the world for ghost walks. They’re a stress-and-mess-free way to inject a bit of spook into an Autumn evening. Booking one in your area has the added bonus of introducing newer colleagues to the local landmarks and the area’s history (albeit its most gruesome history).

Throw a stress-free dress-up party

Alright, it’s probably too late to announce that you’re throwing a party and that everyone’s expected to dress up. No biggie. How about still having the party, but with none of the hassle. Book some Urban makeup artists to your office and let them work their magic with staff before cranking out the tunes and breaking out the booze. There’s even scope to make the whole thing a surprise! Chair massages are also a fantastic way to help everyone limber up before hitting the dance floor, too.

Dec out the office

Think of it like a passive party – spooky ambience can make a huge difference to an office, and shows you’ve recognised that the spooky season is a big deal, even if a party is unworkable. Just remember – fake blood is a nightmare to get out of carpets.
